Ein neuer SCHNITT gefällig?

Ich begann mit einem Gratisschnitt aus einer Zeitschrift und fertigte damit meinen ersten Teddy an. Im Internet und in Zeitschriften bekommt man wirklich jede Menge brauchbare Schnitte. Dabei ist zu beachten, dass alle notwendigen Teile - einschließlich der nötigen Anmerkungen bzw. Markierungen (Angabe von Nahtzugabe, Stopföffnung, Florrichtung) - vorhanden sind und die Proportionen stimmen.

I began with a free pattern from a magazine and that’s how I made my first teddy. You get many good patterns from the Internet and magazines. Special attention should be given to the fact that all the necessary parts - including the necessary notes and/or markings (indication of seam allowance, opening for stuffing, array of the fabric) - are present and the proportions are correct.

▪ Die Teile eines Schnittes

In der Regel besteht ein Schnitt für einen Teddybär aus folgenden Teilen: Körper, Kopf, Kopfmittelstück, Arme, Beine, Fußsohlen, Ohren. Diese Teile werden dann gespiegelt für die rechte/linke bzw. vordere/hintere Seite - vermerkt mit allen notwendigen Angaben - auf ein festes Papier oder einen dünnen Karton übertragen. Bei manchen Schnitten besteht der Bauch jedoch aus insgesamt vier Teilen, wiederum gibt es Schnitte wo ein Bein aus einem Stück gefertigt wird und auch werden häufig die Schnitte der Arme noch für Pfoten geteilt. 

  The parts of a pattern ▪

Usually the pattern for a teddy bear consists of the following parts: Body, side head, head gusset, arms, legs, foot pads, ears. These parts are transferred then, reflected for the right/left and/or front/rear side - notes with all necessary data - to a strong paper or a thin cardboard. There are some patterns which have four parts for the belly and there are patterns with which a leg is made of one piece and often the patterns for the arms are also divided for the paws.

▪ Die Proportionen

Eine gutes Bild der Proportionen kann man sich durch das Auflegen der einzelnen Schnitteile machen. So kann man schon in etwa die fertige Größe erkennen. Wobei hier viel Geschmacksache ist. Manche mögen gerne Teddys mit langen Beinen und Armen, andere hingegen bevorzugen einen mit dickem Bauch. Der Kopf macht jedoch etwa 25% der Gesamtgröße, der Bauch 50% und die Arme und Beine je etwa 40% aus.

Wichtig bei den Schnitten ist auch, dass die Länge der Fußsohle mit jener beim Bein, und jene des Nasenrückens mit der beim Kopfmittelteil übereinstimmt. Ich messe mir diese Teile immer mit einem Stück Faden nach. 

  The proportions ▪

If you lay the parts of the pattern out an a table you will get an idea of the final size of the teddy. The size of arms, legs etc. is a matter of personal taste. Some like their teddies with long legs and arms, others, however, prefer one with a thick belly. The head makes up about 25% of the total size, the belly 50% and the arms and legs about 40%.
You should also make sure, when cutting out the patterns that the length of the foot pad matches with that one of the leg, and that the length of the ridge of the nose matches with the head gusset. I always control these parts with a piece of thread.

▪ Schnitte verändern

Am einfachsten lässt sich ein Schnitt durch Verwendung von Abnähern verändern. Effektvoll kann man welche am Kopf und am Körper anbringen oder aber auch weglassen. 

Ich betrachte mir immer meinen fertigen Bären und verändere dann am Schnitt jene Teile, die ich verändert haben möchte. Mal mache ich die Schnauze kürzer und breiter, das andere Mal wieder zeichne ich stärkere Beine und Pfoten. Hierzu braucht man lediglich etwas Phantasie und Mut, und schon hat man mit leichten Änderungen ein komplett anderes Aussehen geschaffen.

Meine Schnitte verwalte ich in Adobe Photoshop (funktioniert genauso mit anderen Bildbearbeitungs- bzw. Grafikprogrammen). Damit ist mir ein einfaches Vergrößern, Verkleinern, Spiegeln, Verzerren und Drehen der einzelnen Teile möglich. Auch kann ich so ganz einfach einzelne Schnitteile von verschiedenen Bären zusammensetzen. Mit solchen Programmen lassen sich auch das Kopfmittelstück und die Fußsohle bequem spiegeln.

 

  Altering of patterns ▪

A pattern can be altered easily by darts. For a special effect darts can be sewn at the head and at the body, or can be omitted.
First I look at my bear and then I alter the patterns of the parts I would like to have changed. Sometimes I make the muzzle shorter and broader, another time I draw bigger legs and paws. Here you only need some fantasy and courage because with a few small alterations you will create a completely different bear.
I keep my patterns in Adobe Photoshop (functions exactly the same with other picture working on and/or diagram programs). Thus it is easily for me to enlarge, scale down, reflect, distort and turn the individual parts. I also can mix the patterns of the different bears. With such programs also the head gusset and the foot pad can be reflected comfortably.
